The Media Commons reflects the changing role of education and 21st century learning at LFA. This is an environment that supports immersive learning and collaboration anchoring LFA around knowledge, expression, and creation in both virtual and physical spaces. Students can use the Media Commons for anything from writing a paper to creating an interactive ebook to producing a film to downloading and experimenting with a myriad of software applications. There are Apple TVs for student projection, iMacs, Lenovo Multi-user touch screen PCs, two Makerbot 3D printers, vinyl cutter, and a Digital Recording Studio. Students can rent DVDs, video games, gaming consoles, HD cameras and recording equipment . The Media Commons facilitates collaborative work/play through the use of interactive technologies while engaging students and faculty in contemporary media/art/information. In short, it is a digital playground.

The pedagogical purpose of such an interactive technology-driven facility is not only to facilitate access to current technologies and the necessary skills they represent, but also to help blur the line between learning and recreation, work and play, as one of the keys to 21st century education is their eventual synthesis in the classroom.
