The visual arts program provides a unique and essential learning experience for every student on the path to achieving academic excellence at Lake Forest Academy. From their first days in Freshman Foundation in the Arts students are taught to observe the world around them, explore solutions for the problems they face, and envision, communicate and build in response using the skills and processes suitable for the task.
Projects in the visual arts incorporate mathematics, sciences, languages and the humanities to promote broad and deep discussions that are integral to the creative process. Just as skill building is critical to the application of the curriculum; problem solving, cultural awareness, visual literacy, and self expression are at the core of the program’s philosophy. In the visual arts, students are challenged to think both independently and critically using the language of art through written, spoken, visual and tangible forms. Through practice, they acquire the confidence and skills to address relevant complex issues and do work that is both excellent and innovative.
