Gender & Sexuality Alliance
LFA's GSA works to improve the school climate for all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity by eliminating homophobia and transphobia, and fostering respect for all individuals. It promotes these values through its visibility as an advocacy organization and through educational initiatives throughout the year.
Over the course of the 2016-17 academic year the GSA has:
- Welcomed About Face Theater to perform “looking out//looking in” - a collection of stories that connects issues around race, class, sexuality, age, gender, and self-esteem.
- Organized the GSA Faculty vs Seniors Basketball game, raising almost $2,000 for Angles, a local charity that supports LGBTQ+ youth.
- Partnered with organizations such as Angles, the Center on Halsted and the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance.
- Increased visibility of LGBTQ+ issues at LFA through events such as the Day of Silence, film nights and guest speakers.
