A Message from LFA's Head of School

Dear LFA Community,

As announced by LFA Board Chair J. Michael Schell '65 earlier last year, I will retire as the Head of School of Lake Forest Academy, effective June 30, 2019. Loring and I have thoroughly enjoyed our 17 years at LFA, and we look forward to our final year with continued enthusiasm.

I am proud of the accomplishments of the Academy over my tenure, and I believe that I leave the school well-positioned for future growth and further improvement. I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for putting their faith and trust in me, and I hope that I have validated their confidence in leading LFA's journey from "good to great."

I would also like to thank the entire LFA community for helping to make those accomplishments possible. It has been a true team effort, with trustees, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and students all focused on school improvement and a continued emphasis on educational excellence.

As Loring and I contemplate our retirement to the East Coast, we have great memories of our time at LFA. Because we have raised our children here and watched them become young adults, the community will always have a special place in our hearts. We have both grown as teachers and educators over these 17 years, and we hope that our students benefitted as much from our classes as we did teaching them. It is an exciting time for us as well as for the Academy, and we look forward to hearing about and supporting LFA's continued success in the years ahead.

Looking forward, I have complete confidence in the Board to make an outstanding appointment for my successor. They know exactly what is needed to ensure that LFA remains true to its Midwestern heart and global mind and continues to be a place for students to thrive, flourish, and excel. I salute the Academy's long and storied history and look forward, with you, to the next chapter.
