LFA Holds its Traditional All-School Handshake

Head of School José M. De Jesús P’22 opened the ceremony with the traditional flipping of the Lake Forest Academy coin to decide which direction to begin.

On Monday, August 23, the first day of the 2021-2022 academic year, Lake Forest Academy resumed one its longstanding traditions: the All-School Handshake.

At the beginning of each academic year, every student, faculty member, and the administration gather in the formal gardens and participate in the All-School Handshake. The entire school arranges themselves in a line around the edge of the Formal Gardens and the Head of School begins by shaking the person's hand next to him, then they move on to the next until each person has shaken the hand of all others.

The All-School Handshake was canceled last year due to COVID-19 protocols. This year, the Academy held a modified All-School Handshake. All participants were masked and the conventional handshake was replaced with a fist bump, thumbs up, or a wave.
