Lake Forest Academy recently held its annual Fall Food Drive, benefitting North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) and their Family Care Closet. Thanks to the support of LFA families, faculty, and staff, over 3,000 items were collected this year that will directly benefit LFA's neighboring communities.
The Family Care Closet is based inside North Chicago Community High School and it serves an estimated 80 families each week. The donations collected will help allow the Family Care Closet to continue to support local families as the holiday season approaches.
As part of the process, LFA students helped count, sort, and pack the donations for delivery, and several LFA parents volunteered to help unload, inventory, and stock the items at the Family Care Closet. The food drive also served as a friendly House Cup competition, with Bird House, this year's sophomore class, earning first place.
The food drive is one of several events throughout the year that are a result of LFA's continued partnership with NCCP through the Stuart Center for Global Leadership. Just last month, over 40 fourth- and fifth-graders from North Chicago's A.J. Katzenmeier Academy came to campus to participate in Project Pumpkin/Trunk or Treat. This partnership allows LFA students to participate in service learning while providing them the opportunity to have a direct impact on their local communities.
