Director of Theater and Performing Arts Teacher Matt Boresi collaborates with the Decameron Opera Coalition to create an award winning piece

LFA's Director of Theater and Performing Arts Teacher Matt Boresi created the opera "Tales from a Safe Distance" with the Decameron Opera Coalition, which premiered last October; the piece brought together nine opera companies from across the country, employed 86 artists, and featured opera superstar Luca Pisaroni. The opera won a 2020 Excellence in Opera Award from WQXR, the New York public radio classical station, and has also made Opera Wire's Best of 2020 Industry-Defining Moments List! In addition it won 360 Degrees of Opera’s “Best Collaboration” Award in their 2020 Opera Awards, and special recognition by the Library of Congress, which will be including the score, libretto, video, and related interviews in a special archive of notable American art created during the global pandemic.

Boresi also wrote two opera pieces that had two world premieres: "Tales" and the puppet comedy documentary, "Verdi by Vegetables," featuring almost 40 singers and 116 puppets. Two other works by Boresi, "The Filthy Habit" and "The Last American Hammer" will be streamed in spring 2021.
