Dear Members of the Lake Forest Academy Community,

I write to you today to provide an update on the Head of School Transition and Search process. Since our last message to the LFA community on November 18, the Head of School Transition and Search Committee has met frequently to develop and implement a plan to find the Academy’s next Head of School.

As John Marlatt ’65, Chair of the Board of Trustees, noted in the November 18 message to the LFA community, the Head of School Transition and Search Committee has recommended and the Board has approved to begin the search internally.

The Committee is committed to an equitable search process and has developed a roadmap for community involvement in the Head of School search process. After interviewing several executive search firms, LFA has retained the highly regarded Resource Group 175 (RG 175) as the firm that will help us develop and administer the search process for all internal candidates and implement a schedule for the interview process. Bob Henderson will be our consultant during the search process.

RG 175 has a long, successful track record working with independent schools around the country and, indeed, the world on school leadership searches. Bob has already been working with the School to develop the process and finalize the search schedule.

All internal candidates are asked to submit a written expression of interest by this Friday, December 17. The Committee and RG 175 are committed to being discreet and respecting the privacy of all internal candidates while providing transparent updates to the community as the search process advances.

For a couple of days during the week of January 3, Bob will be on campus to meet with stakeholders and to get to know the LFA community much better. Additionally, early next month, members of the LFA community will receive a survey from RG 175 regarding the Head of School search. Your responses will be used in evaluating the top characteristics the Committee will look for in our next Head of School and all responses will be held in confidence.

The Committee will continue to communicate Head of School search updates throughout this process. As a reminder, if you have recommendations for the Committee, please email

The Head of School Transition and Search Committee wishes the entire Lake Forest Academy a Happy Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.
