Philosophy

The Lake Forest Academy Theater Department is rooted in Chicago’s tradition of ensemble theater. Honoring the values of trust, collaboration, empathy, and voice, LFA proudly develops young artists and theater enthusiasts who are the next generation of leaders on or off stage.

Department Overview

Lake Forest Academy’s theater students participate in a robust curriculum that introduces students to the craft of acting, directing, design, and technical theater. LFA’s hands-on curriculum cultivates students’ artistic skills, requiring them to think critically, analyze deeply, create authentically, and respond articulately.

Lake Forest Academy produces three productions annually, offering students the opportunity to participate in the fall play, winter musical, and spring one-act festival. The theories and concepts introduced in our classrooms are placed into practice as the scene shop and rehearsal hall become learning laboratories for artistic growth.

Course Offerings

Theater is a multidisciplinary art form. Consequently, Lake Forest Academy’s Theater Department offers an array of courses designed to introduce and deepen students' understanding of all the dynamic facets that contribute to a theatrical production.

This course introduces students to the methods, strategies, and physical techniques necessary to become more effective speakers and more critical audience members.

LFA really supports me as an artist and as a performer, even outside of school. I'm involved in an arts program at Northwestern this summer with the help of my college counselor and acting teacher here at LFA, so I definitely feel supported as a creative person at this school.
