The J.C. Cowart Media Commons envisions itself as a dynamic center for innovation, creativity, and academic growth. By providing access to advanced tools and fostering a culture of exploration, we aim to empower students as thoughtful creators and informed global citizens. Through hands-on experiences, collaborative projects, and interdisciplinary initiatives, the media commons is committed to staying at the forefront of technological and educational advancement, inspiring students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and make meaningful contributions to the world.

About the J. C. Cowart Media Commons

The J. C. Cowart Media Commons at Lake Forest Academy is a cutting-edge space designed to inspire creativity, innovation, and collaboration among students and faculty. Equipped with state-of-the-art tools—including 3D printers, a sublimation printer and oven, Cricut cutting machines, an auto heat press, and a fully functional recording studio—the media commons supports a wide range of academic, artistic, and technical projects.

It is also home to the 3D Technical Design Club, where students engage in interdisciplinary programming, hands-on design challenges, and collaborative projects that connect creativity with emerging technologies.

Additionally, the media commons hosts the Digital Media Literacy course, taken by all ninth grade students. This foundational class teaches critical research and media skills, such as evaluating sources, understanding primary and secondary resources, applying advanced Google search techniques, and exploring the ethical use of AI tools. Students develop the analytical and creative skills essential for navigating and contributing meaningfully to the digital age.
