Below is the schedule of events that took place for Parents Weekend 2017.


FRIDAY, October 13

12:30 - 4 p.m.

Registration

Reid Hall, Taylor Gallery
Pick up your registration materials and your child's/children's mini-class schedules. Grab a bite on your way to mini-classes, or stop back later for a snack if you have a free period.

1 - 4 p.m.

Caxy Life Auction

Corbin Academic Center, Upper Level
Stop by to bid on auction items, arranged by the LFA Parents Association. Revenues support student life at LFA. Make a donation of an item or of your time. Questions? Contact Caxy Life Auction co-chairs Doug Hood and Anne Shapiro.

1 - 9 p.m. Student Art Show
The Cressey Center for the Arts
Enjoy a visual arts exhibit created and displayed by LFA students.

1:30 - 4:25 p.m. – Mini Classes
Follow your child’s A-day schedule, abbreviated to 15-minute classes with 5-minute passing periods. Classroom locations will be on the schedules that you receive at the Registration area in Reid Hall. It is important that you pick your materials up before 1:30 p.m. so you won't be late for Advisory! (Mini classes are intended for parents and guardians; students do not attend.)

1:30 - 1:45 p.m. - Advisory
1:50 – 2:05 p.m. - Period 1
2:10 – 2:25 p.m. - Period 2
2:30 – 2:45 p.m. - Period 3
2:50 – 3:05 p.m. - Period 4
3:10 – 3:25 p.m. - Period 5
3:30 – 3:45 p.m. - Period 6

State-of-the-School Address

Little Theater, Reid Hall
Join Head of School John Strudwick and members of the LFA Deans Council for an update on Lake Forest Academy, its progress, and its future. (Adults only, please.)


5:10 p.m. - English Classroom and Lower Level Student Union Classroom Reveal
Reid Hall, Second Floor
Faculty members will 'reveal' Reid 6 and Reid 7, and the the Student Union Lower Level Classrooms, which were made possible, in part, through the proceeds fo the 2017 Gala (Adults, only, please.)

5:15 - 6 p.m. – Cocktails and Conversation
Parents Association Cocktails & Conversation with LFA Deans
Corbin Academic Center, Upper Level
Join the Parents Association Board and LFA’s Deans Council members for casual conversation over cocktails and hors d' oeuvres. (Adults only, please.)

5:45 p.m. – Mexican Fiesta! Dinner in the Student Union, Reid-Anderson Dining Room
Dine at LFA’s dining hall and hub of student life in our new $9M facilty, opened in 2016.

7 p.m.

Fall Play

Rock Me, Amadeus - The Cressey Center for the Arts

Join us for LFA’s contemporary take on the longstanding myth that composer Antonio Salieri was responsible for the death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Drawing from a variety of sources and underscored with electronically remixed Mozart compostions, the classical and the modern intersect in this thrilling examination of genius and jealousy.

Library Reading Room, Reid Hall
Join LFA faculty and fellow parents to discuss multiculturalism and pluralism at LFA.

10 - 11 a.m. College-Focused Parent Meeting
How LFA Positioned Me for Success
Little Theater, Reid Hall
Meet LFA young alumni who are successful college students or professionals, and hear their advice for how your students can get the best from an LFA education. (Adults only, please.)

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Tailgate Lunch
Tent at Alumni Field
Join us for smokin' good barbeque and mouth-watering sides. Cheer Caxy athletes on to victory at the varsity field hockey game at 11:30 a.m. and varsity and junior varsity soccer games at 12 noon. Varsity soccer will be played on Alumni Field.

2 - 3 p.m. – Global Experiences at LFA
Student Union Lower Level Classrooms

Learn about what students are involved in and what your student can do while at LFA. Hear about the brand new, Global Concentration for 11th graders, as well as Curricular Travel available to students enrolled in courses across departments. Come listen to students share their global experiences through co-curricular programming, such as GYLI and various clubs on campus. Students have many ways to become even more inspired global citizens--come listen to what may inspire your student!

2:30 - 4 p.m. - Pick up your winnings at the Caxy Life Auction.

Corbin Academic Center - Upper Level

3:15 – Co-ax Concert
Student Union's Holden Terrace (Rain location - The Cressey Center for the Arts, Lillard Lobby)
See LFA's student-faculty rock band, Co-ax, perform their first concert of the schol year at this outdoor venue! Musical selections include I Melt with You by Modern English, Still Rock 'n Roll to Me by Billy Joel, Skinny Love by Bon Iver, and more.

5:30 p.m. – Fall Family Feast
Reid Hall
Bring the whole family for dinner before the Fall Extravaganza for the Arts.

7 p.m. – Fall Extravaganza for the Arts
The Cressey Center for the Arts
LFA’s Choir, and Orchestra will share the stage for this family-friendly night of entertainment.
